On hundred years ago an active national struggle resulted in the overthrow of the Manchu administration and Mongolia declared independence from the Ching empire on December 29, 1911. The eighth Jebtzundamba Khutukhtu was proclaimed Bogd Khan, head of a theocratic government. Thus Mongolia reestablished its national independence and a new era of Mongolian statehood began in the 20th century.
